Hear that train a-comin The 15-acre railyard includes more than 100 steam and diesel locomotives, plus automobile, mail cars, cabooses and more. Making my method around, I was happy that lots of exhibits are complete train sets with a locomotive, numerous vehicles and a caboose. Many rail museums place each piece separately, which is fine, however I like having them together. The museum likewise has among my favorite locomotive designs, an EMD F9 in Denver & & Rio Grande Western livery. If you consider a mid-20th century locomotive, this is most likely what youre envisioning..
Later, I was able to check out the roundhouse where the museums on-site remediation group works. These are early 20th century vehicles modified by the Rio Grande Southern Railroad to run traveler and freight services when they couldnt afford to maintain steam engines. The museum, and the Denver Garden Railway Society that runs it, let me position a cam on one of the model flatbed train cars.

Prior to I left, I got an up-close view of the biggest locomotive at the museum: an enormous 4-8-4 O-5B class locomotive, one of the last big steam trains ever made. This one retired in 1956 after just 16 years of service.
Of course I called the bell on a 130-year-old steam engine. After you enter the Colorado Railroad Museum, youre greeted by a huge engine from the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad. It was a blisteringly hot day when I explored the museum in Golden, Colorado, on Denvers western borders.

Railroad crossing The Colorado Railroad Museum is a lovely museum, with far more charm than numerous of the larger train museums Ive gone to. If youre in the Denver location, I highly recommend inspecting it out.
