The most head-scratching part of Is It Cake? shows up to top off the program. For crucial context, earlier in the episode, an entrant (Jonny) describes a strategy to plant faux tomatoes on one of the genuine tacos to shake off the judges. Flash forward to the cake-guessing game for all the marbles. The judges do not select Jonnys taco– in fact, they pick a genuine taco that appears like it has phony tomatoes on it. I cant verify for sure that taco was the target of Jonnys deception, because the program doesnt bring it up. Nope, not at all.To be clear, there are no guidelines versus what Jonny did as far as I can tell. In a competitors that already does not make much sense, its another aggravating blow. It might have been worked into a mentor moment or laughed off by the judges. Instead, nothing happens, and were left wondering if we missed something.

I always enjoy this part of baking shows– its great to find out a bit about who the participants are and, of course, how they pull off “cake magic. Unlike any baking program Ive ever seen, the taste of the development on Is It Cake? The hosts taste the cakes after they eliminate each gamer … simply for fun.Whats the point of baking a cake?

For a while, everything you saw was being made into a cake. In some cases, seeing a knife dig into a hyper-realistic looking dessert turned out to be more difficult than thrilling. Now, Netflix has scaled the easy idea of authentic-looking cakes into an eight-episode competition series. The program presents our candidates: 9 bakers who all specialize in the same “incredibly specific skill”– making cakes that dont look like cakes.
When I flipped on this reality program, I was wishing to slice into a rewarding escape. In reality, I found myself more troubled by overwhelming options and burning concerns. Im all for recommending reality shows, but ultimately, this is one could-be-confection you dont wish to bite into.
